Transit time: 79 to 94 jours
Before moving to Qatar, check what is included in your new home. In Doha and other residential areas, expat apartments are often furnished or partly furnished, with built-in storage, air conditioning and some major appliances. Reducing your shipment can help control costs and make shared-container shipping a practical option. For a full household or greater flexibility, a dedicated container may be more suitable.
Ask for room dimensions, lift measurements and access details before finalising your inventory. Some compounds and newer buildings have service lifts that cannot accommodate oversized furniture. If your final address is not confirmed, prioritise furniture that can be dismantled.
Qatar’s high temperatures, occasional dust and strongly air-conditioned interiors can affect wood, leather, musical instruments and fragile belongings. Flag these items when requesting a quote so appropriate protection can be arranged. International moving insurance may offer additional cover for valuable belongings.
Carry your personal documents, medication, chargers, essential IT equipment and suitable clothing with you. If your accommodation is not ready, storage may help bridge the gap before final delivery.
For a move to Qatar, paperwork is central to a smooth shipment. In addition to your passport and detailed inventory, you will generally need a work or residence permit, your Qatar ID (the official resident identity card) or proof of your first entry. A no-objection letter in Arabic on your employer’s or sponsor’s letterhead is also required in most cases. These are essential steps in an international move.
Before the container reaches Hamad Port, the Qatar ID holder must also authorise the local customs agent online. Easygroupage recommends securing these approvals before dispatch to avoid lengthy delays on arrival.
Personal effects imported into Qatar undergo a systematic physical inspection. Describe each carton precisely; avoid vague labels such as “miscellaneous” or “personal items”.
Shipments must also be properly palletised. Inadequate preparation can lead to additional port handling or inspection fees.
Depending on volume and urgency, you may use sea freight or send a few essentials by air freight. If you are also shipping a car, plan international vehicle transport from the outset to coordinate the relevant procedures.

“For Qatar, I never send a shipment until the sponsor has prepared the letter in Arabic and the online customs authorisation can be completed using the Qatar ID. I also check computers and religious objects separately, as they may require specific approval.”
The cost of moving to Qatar depends on shipment volume, the collection point in France and the transport method. For small and medium shipments, shared-container shipping spreads costs across several customers, so you pay for the space used. For an entire home or more control over timing, a dedicated container is generally more suitable.
For a few items needed immediately, air freight can complement your sea shipment, especially if your home is ready before the container arrives.
Most household goods arrive via Hamad Port, Qatar’s main commercial port. After the voyage, unloading, deconsolidation of shared shipments, customs checks and final delivery arrangements can take several additional days. Keep some flexibility in your move-in date.
The total cost includes more than ocean or air freight: packing, port handling, local formalities, final delivery and optional services also matter. If you plan to bring a car, include international vehicle shipping in your quotation from the start.
Final delivery is the last stage of moving to Qatar. In Doha and many secure compounds, you may need to book a delivery slot, register the moving team and follow specific access rules. Once your address is confirmed, share the floor number, parking restrictions and service-lift requirements with Easygroupage.
For bulky furniture, plan furniture dismantling and reassembly in advance to make handling safer and easier.
Check each package against the packing list prepared at origin. Pay particular attention to cartons opened during customs inspection. Photograph any irregularities and note specific reservations before signing the delivery receipt. International moving insurance may provide additional protection for valuable belongings.
Allow electronics to adjust gradually to the indoor temperature before switching them on. Professional packing helps protect your belongings during handling, transit and inspections. If your home is not fully ready, storage can make the transition easier.

Sponsor documents, shipment inspections, prohibited items and delivery: answers to the most common questions before shipping your belongings to Qatar.
The file generally includes your passport, work or residence permit, Qatar ID or proof of first entry, shipping documents and a detailed inventory. A no-objection letter in Arabic must also be issued on the sponsor’s or employer’s letterhead. Before the vessel reaches Hamad Port, the customer must authorise the customs clearance agent online.
Sea shipments of personal effects may be subject to customs duties and taxes based on their declared value; the FIDI guide mentions a rate of 5%. The exemption for accompanied personal baggage is subject to specific conditions, including a maximum value of QAR 3,000 and non-commercial quantities. A realistic, consistent inventory helps avoid customs reassessment.
Yes. Imported household-goods shipments are subject to a full physical inspection. Goods must also be palletised; otherwise, penalties and additional handling and inspection charges may apply. No one can access the goods until the inspection is complete, which can make repacking difficult. Proper packing at origin is therefore particularly important.
Computers can be shipped, but IT equipment may require a separate customs procedure. Technical specifications should be provided before arrival so that approval can be obtained from the relevant Qatari telecommunications authority when required. Do not conceal computers under generic inventory descriptions such as “personal effects” or “small appliances”.
Prohibited items include alcohol, pork, weapons, explosives, narcotics, ivory, pornographic material, certain radio equipment and publications considered offensive. Buddha statues are explicitly listed as prohibited. Religious books, idols and devotional objects may require prior approval. Customs may destroy seized goods without the owner’s consent, so check any sensitive item before packing.
